(The Challenge)
AsmyfirstMERNproject,DoTowasmainlyaboutadaptingtotheReactecosystemandorganizingthefrontendintoaclean,modularstructure.Themorepracticalchallengecamewiththerecycle-binfeature:deletedtasksneededtobepermanentlyremovedafter24hours,butascheduledcleanupprocesswasunreliableonRender’sfreetierbecausetheservercouldsleep.
(The Solution)
Iinitiallyapproachedthe24-hourcleanupwithascheduledbackgroundprocess,butdeploymentconstraintsonthefreetiermadeacontinuouslyrunningjobunreliable.Whilesolvingtheproblem,IlearnedaboutMongoDBTTLindexesandmovedtheexpiryresponsibilitytothedatabaseitself.Deletedtasksaremarkedwithadeletiontimestamp,andMongoDBautomaticallyremovesthemaftertheconfigured24-hourexpirationperiod,makingtherecycle-binlifecycleindependentoftherunningapplicationserver.
